About this piece
A pale octopus opens its arms across the sheet, suckers picked out in fine dark rings, the whole creature emerging from a deep indigo wash over a low bank of sea-green weed. The eyes are knowing. Doljenkova plays the soft, blushing flesh of the body against the cold dark of the water to unsettling effect — there is real intelligence in the gaze. One of her most atmospheric marine pieces.
