About this piece
A turbulent sky of bruised violet and amber rolls across the top two-thirds of the sheet while, far out, a single sail catches the last warmth on the water. In the foreground a seal hauls itself onto surf-lit rock, a dark anchor in all that movement. The wet-into-wet sky is bravura watercolour — clouds that genuinely look weather-driven — held in check by the calm horizontal of the horizon. Atmosphere and drama in perfect balance.
