About this piece
This is Doljenkova's most ambitious and complete statement to date — the work her whole practice points toward. Built up in archaeological layers of collage, old manuscript, maps, sheet music, dotted patterning and cracked overpainting, it shows four small figures walking a web-like causeway toward a great golden sun made entirely of gears, clock-faces and turning wheels. Time is the subject: memory, history, the human pull toward meaning. A single red heart and the hand-lettered words "be in love with your life" anchor the lower edge. Layered, symbolic, and built to be read slowly — a painting that rewards the long look.
